Owen fell asleep last night with his little hands cupped together. I thought he looked like an angel. I can not wait to go home and take pictures with mom. She actually has angel wings to dress him up in. (By the way mom...can you find devil garb? I am going to try to get the flame baby legs but need horns and such! Put your feelers out.) This one I think is too funny. I guess i got a bit close with the flash, but the expression is great too!

Owen has discovered how to get his thumbs out of his sleepers. He doesn't quite suck on them but he definitly like to have them out.

Henrietta and finley have really started playing lately. BUSTED!

busy weekend

hey there all, I feel like I am always appologizing for not getting around to updating. We had a pretty busy weekend although it feels like we didn't do anything at the same time. What did we do...? There was an art opening on Saturday for the Blue Moon customer appreciation show. I had 3 photos in the show and mom actually had one in the show from when she was here! (Sorry mom I forged your signature, again!)
Bethany made Owen a hat, but since she is a lefty we started all wrong and it was a bit tight from the get go and it was a bit too small, but it fit "felicity" just perfect. (baby born) Then Henrietta was a great help when it came to me making the flax sacks!

Friday I was quite the entertainer! Cory came over for lunch then Kelly's friend Heather and her daughter Chloe and sister Melissa and her daughter Maddie all came over to drop off some more hand-me-downs and I made dinner for them. Owen has not seen too many beards sso first thing he did was grab on to Cory's beard!
Owen had perfect timing in filling his panrs! Hince the funny look on Heathers face! By the way Kelly, Chloe gave me a big hug to pass along to you, and a kiss too. It was very sweet. The girls were very sweet and very tired. This is Maddie playing shy!

more useful ideas

I keep getting asked what we need and want for christmas so as i think of things i am passing them along. we are about to get a package from mike's niece (hand-me-downs from her little boy) so clothes are not a need. I know it is fun to buy clothes for little ones so go ahead if you can not stop yourself! I think we need socks mostly. Mom has been looking for some diaper covers but has been unsuccessful in finding any. Those will soon be a neccessity as well. We have none foe the next stage. I think these current ones are up to 15lbs. So we are about to grow out of them.
Owen just fell alseep so i an going to go and put him down ! I am getting better at typing one handed. It is time for a shower...yeah. I took some cutie picts this morning. will post later.

an official person

Owen got his social security card in the mail yesterday. It's official, he exists.

a day with becky!

Yesterday we went to becky's house and baked pumpkin cheesecake (yum) and kept her company. She had surgery on her foot last week and is not very mobile. So here are a few fun picts from yesterday! Enjoy. Check out the Baby Legs!

ideas

I just want to let you all know that in having a discussion with mom that I have realized that Owen is pretty set with clothes for the next few months. He is growing so fast and not even wearing all the clothes that he has right now. If you want to get him clothes he is at least 3 months size(and the bigger end of that!) Another idea since clothes come and go so quickly is there are these wonderful shoes called Robeez. The website is great and it is a sweet story so check it out. Once I read the story I wanted to support them even more. You will also see that for every pair bought during the nextmonth they will donate a pair. FOR EVERY PAIR! WOW. They are a bit expensive ($26) so if a few of you get together that is something that he could totally use. He has one pair for 0-6mo (the pea in the pod pair-thanks Erica!) But the next size up would be ideal since he will start using his feet more at that time.
I hope I am not being too forward with what to "buy" for Owen, if I am just let me know. I am just trying to help with ideas that are beneficial and necessary.
These are fun! BabyLegs. Check them out. SOme folks are so clever. We got him the Jack set. They are so handy for putting them on in the evenings when it is chilly but you do not want to keep taking his pants off and putting them back on. And under his sleeper to keep his legs warn when it rides up.

All you folks out there that ate turkey...look how cute this guy is! You know the saying "you are what you eat" I guess I will look like a big soybean! I think I would choose a soybean compared to the alternative! Yhis is a pretty interesting picture huh? Bet someone could have been creative carving this one.

Owen has started holding onto rattles so well here in the last couple of days. I don't think he really knows what he is doing though. It's more like it gets put in his hand and he grips it and does not let go. He is starting to reach for his toys when he hangs out on his belly though. More so I guess just scattering them about not so much grabbing them.

I worked a couple opf days this week while Leslie visited her family in Montana. Owen was so good for me. He slept a couple of hours for me during the day and then both days fell asleep before I had to close up the shop! It was so nice not having to occupy him while trying to close up the store. Thanks lil' man. We had some good play time at the store too. This is us "working hard".

9 week wellness check

Owen had his wellness visit today and let me tell you how well he is!! He is 29 inches long and weighs 14lbs 8oz! WOWZERS! He has doubled in weight and grown 9 inches. When the Dr. walks in and says "well hello no neck chunkers" then ya know he is a chunk! But that is totaly fine with me. Better than the opposite! He is in the 90th percentile of everything. That's my boy! I am actually working today so I am unable to post any pictures. Just thought i would get the latest info out to ya all while it is still hot news.
Happy Day of Thanks to all of you and enjoy your time whether it be with your family or all hunkered down in a mound of pillows (Becky). I am not sure what the day brings forth for my wing of the family but I can assure you I will not be eating any bird! Maybe Tofurkey though.
I am working today and friday. I had to pack bags for an all day outing. I felt like I was packing for an army. And of course it was pouring down rain so that only adds to the layers and bulk. I hope I brought enough dipers! Check out Lily Toad where I am filling in while Leslie goes to visit family.
I promise I will load up a bunch of pictures tomorrow.

Owen has started reaching out for things. Although I have to put the rattle in his hand he holds onto it, for a second!

So I have officially become domesticated! I have joined a "sewing circle". It is really fun so far I learnes how to use my "handy knitter" and have made 3 hats! I am going tonight to brush up on crocheting so I can make matching scarves. Guess what is for Christmas everyone!? I am going to try my hands at rag rugs and I really want to make a snugglie for Owen. This is a hat that I made him, although it is a bit funny, it reminds me of the hats snipers wear in the woods. (only colorful!)

Finley and Henrietta are starting to play. It is really cute. I did not have much faith in it but it is beginning to happen. Y eah! Henrietta got spayed last week and was irritating her sutures so we put a cone on her. It is horrible but I know but it is so hard not to laugh at her! She still tries so hard to snuggle but a hard plastic cone is not very condusive to snuggling!

In one of Henrietta's frisky moments she went tearing throught the house and and jumped on the Owens bouncy ball...as well her claws are not very condusive to rubber balls. :)

a few more picts while i am at it. This is Madeline and her daughter Athena who is 5! And Pablo who I think was jelous and wanted to be in the blog a little more so he curled up in the stroller the other day.

8 weeks

i have been griped at enough...I am sorry. I promised I would update today so here it is. One handed and very brief. I will add more details later but the important part is the picts so here ya all are! (becky and mom!) just kidding!
Mike and I hiked Washington Park a week or so ago. The
ones of us in the trees are from the Arborietum. Owen has fallen alseep in his moses basket the last 2 times I have given him a bath so it is great, I get to shower! I think it is cute when he falls asleep in the bathroom! Although it is wierd to know he is sleeping and not see him where I am used to seeing him asleep.

Here are a couple of outfits that he is just adorable in! I am trying to take picts of most of the outfits so you all can see him in the stuff you got him. Hope it works out and ya all get to see them.

by the way becky the yogurt was a great substitute, thanks.

hush lil' baby

Hush Little Baby

Hush, little baby, don’t say a word,
Mama’s gonna buy you a talking bird.
And when its microchip breaks down,
Mama’s gonna buy you a dancing clown.
And when it gets recalled next week,
Mama’s gonna buy you some mice
that squeak.
And when they all get vacuumed up,
Mama’s gonna buy you a singing pup.
And when it wastes 12 batteries,
Mama’s gonna buy you some plastic keys.
And when they snap in just one day,
Mama’s gonna put her purse away.

Happy Halloween

WOW, thanks Earl! My friend Earl brought over a swing yesterday and my sanity has been restored! (Not really I just have a bit more of hands free time!) I actually made winter squash chowder and punkin' bread yesterday. This morning I have already thrown chili in the crock pot! He loves it and I love that he loves it! I can not believe that I have gone this long without one! (by the way the chowder is heavenly!) I actually had to wake him up yesterday to get him dressed to go into town. I think that will also be the case today. WOW!

My friend Cory's mom, sister and niece were in town last week and I met them up at the zoo. It was a good time. The zoo is always bitter sweet for me. I love animals so much and think it is so rad to be able to watch all the animals and see them up close. It is the whole confinement thing that is hard to swallow. We had a good time though, thanks Cory! This is Cory and Courtney. He was teaching her all kinds of bad habbits i.e. she was saying "sucker" by the end of the day. (as in "uncle cory is a sucka" ! It was really cute but his brother is probably going to kill him! I guess that is what uncles do when they only get to spend 3 days out of a year with them! Is this what I have to look forward to? What is my son going to come home doing?!?

Changing the culture of gifts
When looking for a gift idea here are a few things to consider that may help you to make a
decision on one item or another. We are going to try to raise our child as green as possible in this
not so green world! I am researching on how to raise a child plastic free (or at least minimally, I
am aware of the fact that there are some things that seem to be unavoidable anymore.) So a
few guidelines that seem to be useful are as follows.

*Will this toy eventually turn into dirt-i.e. could I compost it?
Stones, driftwood, flowers...they will be gone and life goes on!
*Do I know who made this toy or specific item?
*Is this toy beautiful? Have human hands bestowed an awkward grace, a uniqueness lacking in
toys cranked out effortlessly by machine?
*Will this toy capture imagination?

We are going to be comming home for Christmas and I want to emphasize that we are trying to raise Owen with very little plastic in his toy box. There are some really great hand made toys out there that are wood. I know they are harder to find but I would really appreciate it if you are considering getting him toys that you respect our values. This is a good website that you can order from and there are plenty of others. www.gummylump.com It is always more special to recieve a gift that is hand made as well, especially by the persons presenting the gift.

busy days

Mike found his new born pictures so here is the comparison photos again.

I think that G-ma Bobbie just likes to upset Owen. This is her on the other line again. He really does smile sometimes. The camera is just never handy enough.

We took some pictures in the front yard the other evening and these were the results! They were fun. I like the whole fall harvest idea. "Look, we harvested a baby!"

It has been a busy weekend. I actually worked today for 4 hours at the coffee shop. My bosses went out of town and wanted someone there basically for backup. I nursed Owen when I first got there and he played for a bit and nursed him again and he went out and we put him in the stroller to sleep and he did not wake up until I was done with my shift! Good little man. I saw so many people that I have not seen since his birth so it was cool to show him off!

I love it when ya all leave messages. It keeps me motivated to keep up on the blog knowing that folks are actually reading it.
